Maldive 2008 - Crociera Donkamana

Seconda esperienza in crociera e sempre con Macanà. Questa volta sulla Dhonkamana, ottima barca di 31 m per 10 m, varata nel 2007, unica pecca la moquette nelle cabine. Ottimi il cuoco ed il servizio a bordo. Bene anche il diving. Questa volta abbiamo avuto come guida Mario Facchini, un istruttore che avevamo precedentemente conosciuto a Gangga quando era il responsabile del centro diving il quale ci ha fatto pedalare un po’ ma ci siamo comunque divertiti.

Il tempo è stato un poco capriccioso ed ha piovuto diverse volte.

Il periodo era verso la fine di aprile e la visibilità era pessima a causa dell’abbondante plancton e ciò nonostante, abbiamo visto solo 2 mante: sembra che in febbraio si sia verificata una strana moria di labridi pulitori così le “stazioni per la pulizia” sono state poco visitate da questi meravigliosi animali.

Sembra che, nello stesso periodo, siano morti anche tantissimi balestra denti rossi, che dovrebbero essere uno dei pasti preferiti dagli squali di barriera, così ne hanno avvistati pochi. In realtà noi crediamo che la causa dipenda dalla pesca indiscriminata agli squali per venderne le pinne ai giapponesi.... Ora la barriera si è nuovamente riempita di piccoli balestra e speriamo che tornino anche gli squali grigi...

Bellissima l’immersione ad Angotti Thila dove c’è un’aquila di mare stanziale e molto simpatica che si diverte a nuotare tra i sub.

Molto eccitante anche la notturna a Maya Thila tra pinna bianca che passano in mezzo alle gambe sei sub, murene giganti, trigoni e tartarughe tutti in caccia, peccato solo che ci saranno stati una quarantina di subacquei....

This is our second live aboard experience in The Maldives and always with Macanà. This time on the Dhonkamana, a very nice ship 31 mt long and 10 mt large, the only one defect was the carpet in the cabins. The chef and the service were very good. The diving center was good too. This time we got a guide named Mario Facchini, an instructor we previously met in Gangga Island where he was managing the diving center. The weather wasn’t very good, some days it was raining.

We went to the Maldives at the end of april and the underwater visibility was very bad because of the plancton and, in spite of it, we met just two manta rays: it seems because of the death of many cleaning fishes as in the cleaning stations there were few manta rays. It seems that many Balistiade Odonus niger were dead too, as they are sharks food, local people say that’s why there were few grey sharks but we think that’s because of the fishermen who catch sharks for selling fins to the Japanese....

The reef is now filled again with little Balistiade and we hope the grey sharks will come back...

It was beautiful diving in Angoti Thila, where a likeable resident eagle ray enjoyed swimming between the divers.

The night dive in Maya thila was very exciting! Between the white tip sharks passing through your legs, giant morays, turtles and spotted stingrays while they were all hunting. Unfortunately there was a traffic jam: there were about forty divers!
