Isole Fiji 2003

Le isole Fiji sono molto belle in superficie ma i fondali delle tre isole che abbiamo visitato ci hanno delusi molto: a Vanua Levu, dove si trova il resort di Cousteau, il corallo era in gran parte distrutto a causa delle bombe che i locali usavano per pescare e vi erano quindi pochissimi pesci; i colori erano pressoché inesistenti. Il diving, pur avendo un nome prestigioso ed essendo di conseguenza molto caro, era scadente: si scendeva in dodici, di cui dieci OWD e due rescue (cioè noi) con un’unica guida che non ci guardava mai, tanto è vero che gli OWD pallonavano spessissimo dai 20 mt e lui non se ne accorgeva nemmeno...

Il cibo era ottimo ed i bungalows erano belli, peccato che non disinfestassero mai ed alla sera le zanzare festeggiassero.....

A Tokoriki c’erano molte grotte ma anche qui c’era poco pesce e poco colore. Il resort era carino e la cucina buona. Buono anche il diving.

Il resort di Castaway è sicuramente meno ricercato dei primi due ed è anche molto più grande. Contrariamente alle immersioni fatte sulle altre due isole, queste si svolgevano sul reef oceanico spesso battuto da alte e lunghe onde, la cui risacca si sentiva in profondità.

Belle madrepore ma pochissimo pesce. Diving così così.

La temperatura dell’acqua era di circa 25° in tutte e tre le isole.

Above water, the Islands are really beautiful, but underwater the situation is different and get really bleak… dead corals (because they use fishing with bombs) therefore there are few fishes and colors.

Cousteau’s resort, on Vanua Levu Island, was very nice and the cuisine was really good, but the resort was plagued by mosquitoes because no one disinfected the area.

Unfortunately the diving was poor and very expensive: 12 people (10 OWD) with only one guide! Was $80 for one tank dive!

In Tokoriki Island there were many caves but few fishes here too. The resort was nice, the cuisine was good as well as the diving centre.

The Castaway Island resort is not as nice as the other two…. but it is bigger.

Cuisine was not special, neither was the diving centre. The dive sites were always on the ocean reef so we saw some beautiful corals but few fishes here too.

Underwater temperature always about 25° C.
